Giant Clam

Giant clams live on tropical coral reefs, including the Spermonde Islands around Samalona Island. Their brightly colored mantles—blue, green, purple, or brown—contain microscopic algae called zooxanthellae. These algae provide food through photosynthesis, making giant clams important to the balance of coral reef ecosystems.
